As some of you know, Renee Kant McClure was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral
sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease approximately two years
ago. We are trying to do all we can to raise funds to find a cure. I recently
forwarded a letter to some 1969 Alumni that Renee sent to me, so you already
know her health status. For those of you who don't know, Renee can no longer
walk, though she can stand for a few seconds to assist in transfers. Her hands
are pretty useless so she is now using a new computer that she controls with eye
movements. Her voice is deteriorating, so soon the computer will have to talk
for her. She can still breath and swallow, though both are getting weaker. She
will have a tube installed for feedings in the next few months.
I am writing now to ask for your help. On September 9, 2006 the Les Turner ALS Foundation is holding the ALS Walk4Life. It is a two-mile walk along Lake Michigan in Chicago. I plan to walk in honor of Renee and hope that you will consider sponsoring me in my effort. A contribution of any amount – large or small – will be used to support ALS research and patient services.
I am committed to doing whatever it takes to help those living with ALS, as well as support the promising research aimed toward finding the cause and cure. I hope you will be too.
You can use this link to go to the McClure Marchers website and make an online donation. Please use my name "Cynthia Pugliese" as the Walker.

Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express are accepted.
If you'd like to join us in the walk, please let me know and I'll forward your name and email address on to Jordy.

Thanks to all who donated for Renee. The weather was cool and windy, but at
least it didn't rain. Special thanks to Robb Packer and Linda Wagner Weiner who
joined me at the Walk4ALS.
